P1 / SIX DEGREES of SEPARATION
October 22, 2009
SIX DEGREES of SEPARATION – if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is at most six steps away from any other person on Earth. Long story short, it is the concept of interconnected human network.
Based on the previous exercises, we collaborated all the elements created and developed a 1 minute long video. The visual is created by still images, then put together into a stop motion video. We named it as the 6 Degrees of Separation, because it expresses the idea of network between people and explores the different pace and route of each individuals. The transitions are linked by the point where 2 random individuals meet, then the focus transfer to the new arrival and continue with his/her story. The photos are taken from the first person’s point of view, because we agreed that this is the most effective angle to represent an individual, as it is what he/she sees. The sound is a refined version of the sound essay. We made it reversed, in order to make it more abstract / not too literal. The sounds reinforces the sense of different pace and routine between people, meanwhile they are connected in some way, just like the concept of 6 degrees of separation. We are all connected in the small world, no matter if you are in the busy city, the park or else where.
